HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leslie Cole-Brooks has joined the Distributed Energy Resources Council of Hawaii (DERC) as the Executive Director.
Cole-Brooks will lead DERC in its representation of behind-the-meter distributed energy resource companies that are working together to help Hawaii achieve its goal of 100 percent renewable energy generation by 2045.
“DERC brings innovation, expertise, and a can-do attitude that will move us past the status quo and into the next phase of renewable adoption in Hawaii,” said Cole-Brooks. “It’s quite an honor to be part of this new group, and I very much look forward to work that will make the most of all distributed energy resources.”
Ms. Cole-Brooks has extensive experience in the renewable energy industry, most recently as Executive Director of the Hawaiian Solar Energy Association (HESA), a trade organization focused on promoting sustainability and energy independence for Hawaii, where for three years she oversaw legislative strategy and lobbying for the group and its members.
Cole-Brooks continued: “As Hawaii makes important decisions about the future of its electrical grid and the transition to a completely renewable energy infrastructure, it is critical that we work together collaboratively to ensure that all parties involved are heard and that we establish goals that are fair and equitable to everyone.”
Prior to her work with HSEA, Cole-Brooks served as a legislative analyst for Hawaii state Rep. Cynthia Thielen, R-Kailua-Kaneohe. She is also trained as a geologist, and holds a law degree from The William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. She is a current member of the California and Hawaii State Bar Associations.
The initial six members of DERC Hawaii include: E-Gear, a battery energy storage system provider; Enphase, a global energy technology and solution provider; Hawaii Energy Connection, a sustainable energy solution provider; Hygrid, an energy consulting firm; Stem, a leading intelligent energy storage and software provider; and Tabuchi, one of the world’s largest solar inverter manufacturers.
