FanDuel Forms New Advisory Board to Develop Policy Recommendations

NEW YORK--()--Today, FanDuel took an important step in the ongoing review of its internal standards, practices and controls by forming a new internal advisory board, chaired by former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Michael Garcia. The board brings together respected leaders from across government, law and sports. Together, this distinguished board will provide independent advice on evolving governance and regulatory issues to FanDuel’s board of directors for this growing and increasingly popular industry.

The members of the Advisory Board include:

  • Chair, Michael Garcia, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP;
  • Tom Ridge, former Governor of Pennsylvania and Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Chairman of Ridge Global;
  • Terdema Ussery, former President and CEO of the Dallas Mavericks; and
  • Tim Brosnan, former Major League Baseball Executive Vice President of Business.

“Ensuring trust with our players is a core tenant of FanDuel’s operations and a driving force in everything we do as a company,” said Nigel Eccles, CEO of FanDuel. “The advisory board is an important step to best position FanDuel for continued growth, demonstrate our commitment to providing users a great experience and guide our work with regulators and lawmakers moving forward.”

"FanDuel changed the way people engage with sports,” said Michael Garcia. “But the explosive growth comes with serious new responsibilities. It's incumbent upon the industry leaders to ensure their consumer protections and governance standards grow in proportion to the business. Our team of advisors brings the experience, skills and perspective to provide ongoing governance and compliance advice, recommendations and guidance aimed at ensuring the company takes all possible steps to ensure the integrity of its site and its games as FanDuel continues its transition from startup to an established business.”

In conjunction with the work of this newly formed Board, FanDuel has asked former federal judge and United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey to lead an internal review of its policies and protocols to ensure the integrity of its competitions. Judge Mukasey and his team at the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton are developing a set of recommendations for FanDuel to adopt and will highlight any areas where controls can be strengthened.
