More than a Third of Consumers Go Over Budget When Holiday Shopping, CouponCabin Survey Shows

WHITING, Ind.--()--CouponCabin, a leading online coupon and cashback website, today released results of its 2015 Online Holiday Shopping Habits survey, which showed more than a third (36 percent) of consumers exceed (29 percent “somewhat” and 7 percent “significantly”) what they budget for holiday spending. Only 16 percent of consumers said they spend less money than they budget.

One reason consumers consistently exceed their budget is because they may not consider the ease of getting cashback, or even consider coupons. “With predictions that online shopping will be more popular than ever this holiday season, retailers will be offering a variety of great deals,” said CouponCabin CEO Scott Kluth. “Our goal is to make sure shoppers aren’t leaving money on the table.”

Tired of Battling the Black Friday Madness

Many people may associate the holiday season with the glitter of department stores, but consumer preferences are changing-- more shoppers now choose to avoid the hustle and bustle of brick-and mortar retailers. CouponCabin’s survey showed that while 57 percent of consumers generally prefer to shop online, that number increases by more than ten percent during the holidays (69 percent). Convenience and better prices ranked as the top reasons respondents prefer to shop online during the holidays (39 percent and 28 percent, respectively), while only 18 percent of consumers said coupons are the number one reason they shop online.

CouponCabin makes it easier than ever to get the most of combined offers for online coupons and cashback savings this holiday to avoid overspending. With customized email newsletters, mobile apps for iPhone, Android and iPad, exclusive coupons and up to 10 percent cashback at more than 3,000 online stores, shoppers will never miss a great deal.
