Ultra Electronics, 3eTI Introduces Cyber Security Solution for BACnet based Building Automation Systems

New CyberFence protocol protection safeguards building automation systems without impacting IT-managed systems operations

ROCKVILLE, Md.--()--Ultra Electronics, 3eTI®, a leading cyber-technology company with products and solutions that secure critical infrastructure and improve operational efficiency, today announced BACnet support for its CyberFence® product line. The new capability dynamically validates and secures all BACnet communications, adding security to vulnerable routes in the Building Automation Systems (BAS) used to control building operations for HVAC, lighting and more.

Industrial control system (ICS) security experts have long warned that common BAS protocols that include BACnet and Modbus, among others, are dangerously susceptible to cyber-intrusion. Firewall and firewall alternatives for securing BACnet protection provide inadequate security for this protocol and are often too complicated for efficient management by engineering personnel.

CyberFence is designed to anticipate the needs of ICS operators who cannot risk impaired operations or downtime. The new BACnet security enhancements expand CyberFence – a solution that already is unsurpassed in extending robust protection to vulnerable protocols. It is easily configurable by a control engineer or technician, and protects against a wide range of malicious or malware attacks, including exploitation of undiscovered vulnerabilities in the BAS devices themselves. The addition of a complete BACnet protocol parsing and validation capability, complementing similar capabilities for Modbus, OPC, DNP3, EtherNet /IP, and Canbus, underscores the CyberFence line's utility as one of the industry's most comprehensive, extensible and productivity-enabling solutions available for ICS.

"We are proud to further expand the capabilities of our world-class CyberFence ICS cyber security solution," said Benga Erinle, 3eTI President. "The new BACnet protection capability now allows operators of critical facilities such as data and healthcare centers to assure the effective operations of key building systems through protection against cyber-attack.”

The 3eTI CyberFence solution includes end-to-end security inclusive of firewall protection, encryption of transmitted data, packet authentication, protocol parsing, and advanced deep packet inspection (DPI) to proactively protect devices against vulnerabilities. Certified by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), CyberFence offers embedded cyber-protection for vulnerable endpoints, and is widely used in military and industrial networks to efficiently protect machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.

3eTI will be showcasing the CyberFence solution at the Federal Facilities Council Building Control Systems Cyber Resilience Workshop in Washington, DC, November 17-19.
