Founder of Silicon Valley’s Specialty Foundry Noel Technologies Wins Age Group at Maui Half Marathon

75-Year-Old Executive is Active in the Semiconductor Industry and Distance Running

CAMPBELL, Calif.--()--Despite its rapid pace of technology development, the semiconductor industry would be hard pressed to keep up with Leon Pearce, 75-year-old founder and chief technical officer of Silicon Valley specialty foundry Noel Technologies. Pearce recently completed the Maui Half Marathon, finishing first in his age group of runners over 70 with a time of two hours, six minutes and 41 seconds. Pearce’s time placed him in the top 25 percent of all runners, regardless of age.

Nearly 1,200 runners competed in this year’s race. The Maui Marathon – one of the three oldest marathons in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River – and the Half Marathon – begun in 2004 – have raised more than $350,000 for Maui-based non-profit organizations since 1995.

Pearce’s career in the semiconductor industry began in 1967 as an applications engineer at test equipment leader Hewlett-Packard. The following year, he was recruited by Intersil Semiconductor to work under industry pioneer Jean Hoerni.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Pearce founded two companies, IC maker Semi Process Incorporated (SPI) and second-source device manufacturer Si Fab.

In 1996, he leveraged his entrepreneurial skills and technical expertise in launching Noel Technologies, a specialty foundry in Silicon Valley performing process development and semiconductor fabrication for a variety of high-technology industries.

In addition to his ongoing leadership in the semiconductor industry, Pearce is a keen runner who regularly competes in marathons. He has qualified for and run the Boston Marathon several times in the past six years.
