Merrill Corporation Names Thomas Fredell Chief Product Officer

ST. PAUL, Minn.--()--Merrill Corporation (www.merrillcorp.com), a global provider of secure content sharing, regulated communications and compliance services, has named Thomas Fredell, Chief Product Officer.

In his new role, Fredell will lead Merrill’s efforts to reshape the management, design, engineering and architecture of the company’s products and service offerings. He will be based in Austin, Tex., reporting to Merrill CEO, Rusty Wiley.

Fredell joins Merrill from SmithCo Investments, an Austin-based investment firm, where he served as CEO. Prior to SmithCo, Fredell led a 60-person product and engineering team for SnagAJob.com, as Chief Technology Officer. He has also founded two companies, ForAllTime, which created on online application for scrapbooking called Membly; and Cambridge Technology Visions, a SaaS company acquired by IntraLinks, Inc., where he served as Chief Technology Officer for nine years.

Fredell earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia in cognitive science, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Fredell holds two patents on computer security and collaboration technology, and has authored or contributed to a variety of technology books.

In addition to his career, Fredell is passionate about education. He served as a board member of the Knowledge Is Power Program: Massachusetts (KIPP:MA) for eight years, and served as chairman for four years. KIPP:MA is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success to and through college and in life.
