Boombotix, ODB Estate and RZA Release New Ol’ Dirty Bastard Track

RZA discovers a new track, “Obey Me” at the Wu Mansion for exclusive release with Boombotix and Zumiez

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Boombotix, a leader in audio technology, and RZA, founder of the Wu-Tang Clan, have released a new Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) track through a limited edition Boombot REX. Earlier this year, RZA was going through the archives of tapes stashed at the Wu Mansion when he came across the unreleased recording. The single from the late Wu-Tang Clan legend, “Obey Me,” is embedded in a limited edition Boombot REX speaker, which features two remixes by Shash’U and High Klassified.

With ODB’s birthday and passing anniversary coming up, Boombotix and the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard will also commemorate the famed rapper with Ol’ Dirty Bastard Week.

“Ol’ Dirty never made mainstream decisions,” said RZA, creator of Wu-Tang Clan and Head Abbot of Product and Content Development at Boombotix. “This project is not only a unique way to market new music and get people talking about their personal experiences with tunes, but it exemplifies the type of originality that he would have wanted from his own releases. I think he’d be proud to know his legacy lives on.”

Boombotix is working with the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard and RZA have created Ol’ Dirty Bastard week—starting on Nov. 9—to celebrate the life of ODB (Russell Jones), who died on Nov. 13, 2004, just two days before his 36th birthday. On Nov. 9 the limited edition speaker will be available for purchase on Boombotix.com and in Zumiez stores.

“By creating this celebration week we are really honoring my husband and his legacy,” said ODB’s wife and administrator of the estate Icelene Jones. “I believe the fans will really enjoy the new music Boombotix is releasing.”

Starting Nov. 10, fans can experiment to ODB’s Welfare Card Maker on Boombotix.com. Users will be given a unique Wu-Tang nickname and be able to place their own headshots into Jones’ iconic welfare card. Jones’ welfare card was featured on the cover of his first album, “Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.”

On Nov. 11, Boombotix will debut a new music video for Shash’U’s remix of “Obey Me.” The music video will feature Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s son, Bar-son Jones (professionally known as “Young Dirty Bastard”).

The week will finish with a party on Nov. 13 thrown in conjunction with Zumiez. Zumiez Stash members will be able to attend the party held at The Wick in Brooklyn.

“The week is going to expose a lot of young music listeners to one of the most creative hip hop artists ever,” said Mustafa Shaikh, Vice President of Marketing & Rhetoric at Boombotix. “A lot of his creativity came from Ol’ Dirty Bastard simply being true to himself. We hope these series of releases and events do justice to his legacy.”

The ODB Boombot REX is available for pre-order starting today at Zumiez.com. Boombotix has released content through its speakers several times including the 20th Anniversary Wu-Tang Clan album, and selections from Achozen’s upcoming release. Boombotix’s speakers have become part of the conversation about how artists can put music back in hands of fans.
