Top Five Teams Announced in Point72 Case Competition

STAMFORD, Conn.--()--Binghamton University, Duke University, Harvard University, University of Michigan and University of Pennsylvania have the five finalist teams for Point72 Asset Management, L.P.’s (Point72) second annual Point72 Case Competition, Jessica Anderson, Point72’s head of Investment Talent Development, announced today.

The Point72 Case Competition provides teams of college sophomores and juniors the opportunity to simulate the research investment professionals conduct in their daily professional lives. Teams were asked to perform extensive industry and ticker-specific analysis in order to prepare an investment recommendation on a publicly traded company in the airline industry.

More than 200 teams of three students from 24 schools registered in the Competition’s second year, compared with more than 100 teams from 22 colleges in 2014. Point72 Investment Professionals and leaders from the Point72 Academy winnowed the submissions to the top five. Point72’s equity financial analysts critiqued the submissions and the finalists will incorporate those suggestions into their work before presenting to a committee of judges from Point72 on Saturday, October 17. The winner of the 2015 Point72 Case Competition will be announced on Monday, October 19.

The top teams will share more than $25,000 in cash prizes and will receive accelerated consideration for interviews for a position as a Point72 Academy Summer Analyst.

“All of the teams were impressive,” Ms. Anderson said, “but the finalists demonstrated the work ethic and fundamental analytical skills we look for in potential future colleagues. This competition provides an invaluable opportunity for these students to take what they’ve learned in school and use those skills in a professional setting.”

The Point72 Academy is a highly selective and rigorous training program that teaches recent college graduates to master the financial analysis and research skills necessary to contribute to investment recommendations. The Academy’s 10-week Summer Analyst program helps undergraduate rising seniors develop skills that are fundamental to the Firm’s investment process. Point72 Investment Professionals and external subject matter experts develop and teach Summer Analysts to create and refine financial models, conduct primary and industry-specific research, prepare stock recommendations, and complete projects.
