PRIUM Executives to speak at California Workers’ Compensation & Risk Conference

Mark Pew discusses medical marijuana and Michael Gavin is on the bloggers panel at the Dana Point conference

DANA POINT, Calif.--()--PRIUM’s Senior Vice President Mark Pew and President Michael Gavin and will participate in separate sessions of the California Workers’ Compensation & Risk Conference.

Pew is part of the “How California and Colorado Manage Risks Associated with Legalized Marijuana” panel at 9 a.m. on October 1. Bernadette O'Brien, with Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in California and Doug Kotarek with Hall & Evans in Colorado will discuss their states’ experiences, the legal implications and employer best practices. Rosemary Antar, human resources business partner with Colorado’s L-3 Randtron Antenna Systems will bring an employer’s viewpoint. Then Pew will outline what “medical” means and discuss societal implications.

“Given the momentum of legalization and decriminalization, employers can no longer assume marijuana legalization will have no effect on workplaces,” Pew said.

Gavin, who created and writes Evidence Based, a blog that examines pain management and the use and misuse of opioids and other prescription drugs, will appear on the Blogger’s Panel on Oct. 1 at 3:45 p.m. Moderated by Mark Walls of Safety National and featuring WorkCompCentral’s David DePaolo, Bob Wilson with workerscompensation.com, and Thomas Robinson with LexisNexis, the panel will explore hot issues facing the workers' compensation and risk management industry and take audience questions.
