Historic Eastman Kodak Property in the Heart of Hollywood Reaches Full Occupancy

Creative campus redeveloped by Lincoln Property is 100% leased after extensive restoration

LOS ANGELES--()--After a two-year, multimillion-dollar restoration of the historic Eastman Kodak site by Lincoln Property Company in Hollywood, the redeveloped campus encompassing more than 100,000 square feet of creative office space on nearly three acres is now fully leased.

The SIM Group, a leading supplier of services and technology to the film and television industry, signed a long-term lease for 65,000 square feet in a building constructed by Kodak in 1994 and recently renovated by Lincoln. The state-of-the-art facility features traditional editorial office space, post-production space, a DI theater and camera rental space.

With SIM Group’s arrival, the two-building campus, which was built by Eastman Kodak Company and served as the company’s home for nearly a century, will now be a media and technology hub featuring modern, collaborative and open work spaces.

“At the Kodak campus, we were able to marry old Hollywood with modern conveniences in order to meet the 21st century demands for creative office and production space in one of Los Angeles’ most coveted locations,” said David Binswanger, Executive Vice President at Lincoln Property Company. “This project, and the addition of the SIM Group, solidifies Hollywood’s place as a center for entertainment and technology.”

The three-story space will house three SIM Group companies—all of which will play important roles in the entertainment production and post-production process. According to the SIM Group, “SIM Digital, which rents cameras and other production gear, will occupy the first floor. Chainsaw, a post production facility offering offline editorial, editorial finishing and color grading services, and Bling Digital, which provides dailies processing and workflow services, will share the second and third floors.”

“We couldn’t be happier with the results on this property that played such a vital role in the entertainment industry for nearly a century,” said Rob Kane, Vice President at Lincoln Property Company. Starting at this location in the 1920s, Eastman Kodak scientists invented the first motion picture film designed for sound. Decades later, the facility served as a gathering place for Hollywood’s elite cinematographers, and its screening room was commonly used for viewing raw footage.

“With SIM Group leasing up the rest of the property, this campus is now one of the most important creative centers for production and post-production activities in the 21st century. We’ve created a real legacy project here,” Kane said.

Matthew Miller, Managing Principal of Cresa, represented SIM in the transaction. "We had a challenging requirement, and the Kodak campus offed an ideal solution," Miller said. "Lincoln was offering something unique in one of the hottest submarkets in the city."
