NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Audible Studios, a production arm of Audible.com, today announced the release of Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg’s fiction debut, Bream Gives Me Hiccups, a whip-smart collection of stories that explore the various insanities of the modern world through Eisenberg’s funny and self-ironic voice. The audiobook is performed by Eisenberg along with a cast including his sister, Hallie Eisenberg, who plays the sister role in the stories. The recording, which marks the first time that the acclaimed actor, playwright and humorist has narrated one of his own works in audio, is available for download at www.audible.com/bream.
“Most of the pieces in this book were written to be performed,” said Eisenberg. “These are dialogues, monologues, and unhinged personal rants. Recording this audiobook felt like an extended therapy session and I hope that listening to it will be just as cathartic.”
“Given Jesse’s auspicious film and theater credits, we had no doubt that his audio performance would be a relentlessly entertaining piece of work,” said Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson. “His sharp, humorous, and thoughtful voice adds dimension and depth to his vividly drawn characters, and his delivery will have listeners chuckling nonstop.”
Bream Gives Me Hiccups, also released in hardcover today, is Eisenberg’s ninth audiobook performance and his first for Audible Studios. Eisenberg’s acting credits include The Social Network, Now You See Me, Adventureland, The Squid and the Whale, The Double, and The End of the Tour.
In addition to Eisenberg, among the acclaimed performers who have narrated works of literature for Audible are Dan Stevens, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kate Winslet and Tim Robbins. In 2013, Audible Studios won its first Grammy Award, for its production of Janis Ian’s memoir Society’s Child, and also won the Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year, for Colin Firth’s performance of Graham Greene’s The End of the Affair.
Audible, the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content, invented and commercialized the first digital audio player in 1997, and has since been at the forefront of the explosively growing audiobook download segment. In 2014, listeners around the world downloaded 1.2 billion hours of audio from Audible.com outlets; Audible members downloaded an average of more than 17 books over the course of the year. More than half of current Audible members are first-time audiobook buyers.
