Humana and King’s Daughters’ Health Partner to Launch Accountable Care Program in Madison, Ind.

Relationship designed to help improve the health and well-being of Humana Medicare Advantage members

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & MADISON, Ind.--()--Improved health and more coordinated services for a growing number of Humana Medicare Advantage (MA) members in Madison, Ind. is the goal behind a new Accountable Care agreement between King’s Daughters’ Health and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM).

The value-based agreement reflects a shift away from the current episodic health care model to a value-based model that emphasizes quality and patient care experiences. The accountable care approach also aligns King’s Daughters’ Health and Humana’s complementary population health capabilities, including predictive analytics, chronic disease management and wellness programs.

“King’s Daughters’ provides exceptional health care to five counties in Southeast Indiana and North Central Kentucky,” said Holly Robinson, MD, Vice President of Quality King’s Daughters’ Health. “We look forward to putting an even greater emphasis on wellness, prevention, and disease management to improve the health of our community.”

“We respect that King’s Daughters has deep roots in the Madison community and has dedicated itself to bringing coordinated, personalized care to patients,” said Rich Vollmer, Humana’s Regional President for Senior Products in Kentucky. “It is very forward thinking of them, especially as the health industry moves toward taking care of people in a continuum.”

The new Humana-King’s Daughters accountable care agreement includes value-based incentives tied to performance improvement and quality outcomes, emphasizing standard measures defined by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), including breast cancer screening, colorectal screening, comprehensive diabetes care, and high-risk medications.

Humana has nearly 30 years of accountable care experience, reflected in results from approximately one million Medicare Advantage members that showed significant improvements in quality, outcomes and costs in 2013.

Today, Humana has approximately 1.5 million individual Medicare Advantage members and nearly 200,000 Commercial members, cared for by approximately 45,500 primary care physicians in more than 900 accountable care relationships across 43 states and Puerto Rico.
