LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach is opening the new Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation Pediatric Urology & Nephrology Center on Wednesday, Aug. 26. This new center combines Miller Children’s urology and renal programs, which makes it one of the only comprehensive centers of its kind in all of Southern California.
The new Center was made possible by a generous donation from The Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation that was secured by the Memorial Medical Center Foundation. The late Mrs. Hoag made this gift so that children in and around the Long Beach community would have access to specialty medical care close to home, eliminating the stress and financial burden of families having to go to medical facilities far from home.
Collaboration between urology and nephrology experts is imperative to successful outcomes. Patients who have a urologic or renal condition sometimes require consultations or treatment from both specialties. This new Center houses both care teams under one roof. This limits the amount patients need to travel to different locations, and physicians from both specialties can consult on cases with ease to provide patients with the best possible care and outcomes.
“The Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation Pediatric Urology & Nephrology Center provides many new opportunities and better outcomes for Miller Children’s and our patients,” says Deepak Rajpoot, M.D., medical director, pediatric nephrology, Miller Children’s. “With our two programs joining forces under one roof, it gives us the opportunity to work together to develop treatment plans that cover all the needs for our patients for any urological or renal condition. Not only does this new Center make things much easier and less stressful for our patients, but it makes us a leader in California for all urology and nephrology care.”
This consolidation of disciplines at Miller Children’s better serves its patients in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease, while it continues to provide high-quality patient and family centered care and conduct innovative research in all aspects of urology.
Located in the Hartley Medical Office Building on Long Beach Blvd., the new Pediatric Urology & Nephrology Center offers multi-disciplinary care providing the latest urologic and renal care. This includes surgical procedures, ranging from very simple circumcisions to the most complex of urinary and genital anomalies, to new technology that allow physicians to make immediate diagnoses during a patient’s office visit.
The Pediatric Urology & Nephrology care team also focuses on complex reconstruction and minimally invasive surgery, as well as the treatment of complex congenital conditions. Some of these treatments include complex urodynamics testing, renal replacement therapy and hemodialysis.
“This new Center is another step forward in our ongoing mission here at Miller Children’s of advancing pediatric health care,” says Divya Joshi, M.D., chief medical officer, Miller Children’s. “None of it would have been possible without the generous support of The Larry & Helen Hoag Foundation.”
