Accenture Helps BUILD Develop Growth Strategies and Tools for Youth Entrepreneurship Program Expansion

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--Accenture (NYSE:ACN) in a 2015 consulting engagement helped BUILD, a nonprofit organization, develop a framework to broaden its impact and scale nationally. BUILD is dedicated to proving the power of experiential learning through entrepreneurship in under-resourced communities.

BUILD serves approximately 1,500 students in the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington D.C., and Boston and plans to expand to New York City, serving an additional 400 students, in 2016. BUILD aspires to reach 15,000 students across 10 U.S. locations by 2023.

Accenture developed a reusable, replicable feasibility framework and tool to help BUILD determine and prioritize sites for national expansion, develop an expansion timeline and implement a roadmap for selected sites. The expansion tool uses data analytics to assess more than 20,000 public high schools in nearly 1,000 regions across the country.

“Accenture has helped our organization develop strategy and operational structures to achieve our vision,” said Christopher Brown, Vice President of Regional Management & Growth at BUILD. “The project was geared towards evaluating data to enable us to make strategic decisions regarding our national expansion. The tools developed by Accenture will help us to effectively expand our national reach well into the future. Indeed, the work done by the team at Accenture will bolster BUILD’s capacity to scale effectively, ultimately supporting the success of more under-resourced students across the country.”

BUILD has incubated 750 youth-led businesses since 2001. Since 2012, 98 percent of students in BUILD’s programs have graduated from high school, and 98 percent of those graduates have been accepted to college.

“Our work with BUILD centered on helping the organization become a catalyst for innovation and change in how this country educates children,” said Pallavi Verma, Accenture North American managing director for state and local government public sector, education and nonprofit work. “We focused on establishing a systematic approach for the organization to evolve into a national model for experiential learning in an entrepreneurial context.”
