SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The race is on at Salt Lake Comic Con 2015 (http://saltlakecomiccon.com/). Salt Lake Comic Con is teaming with the Specialty Hospital of Utah, formerly the South Davis Community Hospital, for the Superhero Run 2015 (http://superherorunners.com/) on Saturday, September 26, 2015, to raise money for construction to replace the deteriorating existing hospital.
The Superhero Run is a five-kilometer (5K) and one mile run and walk, where participants dress up as their favorite hero to honor everyday superheroes, and raise money and awareness for a good cause.
Prior to the Superhero Run, Salt Lake Comic Con will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as comic book characters. There will be an official Guinness adjudicate on hand to verify the world record attempt. The current record is 1,530 participants.
Since 1955, Guinness World Records has been inspiring ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Its mission is to entertain and inform, and to celebrate the world’s best.
“We’re honored to partner with the hospital and help raise much needed money for such a wonderful cause,” said Dan Farr, Salt Lake Comic Con Founder and Show Producer. “We like to be involved with worthy causes like this and help make a difference in the community. This will be a great way for us and our fans to have fun and help raise money for a hospital that has made a difference in thousands of lives and families here in Utah. Our past events have broken a number of Comic Con attendance records and now it will be fun to set a new world record through the Guinness World Records.”
The Superhero Run costs $35 and the Mega Mile costs $28, which includes a superhero swag bag with a T-shirt, decal and other great items. There will also be a Super Kids Mighty K race that is free for children. The Superhero Run begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The world record comic character event begins at 7:00 a.m., and is free to the public and anybody dressed as a comic book character.
The Superhero Run will start outside the Salt Palace Convention Center’s main entrance and will follow a downtown course finishing at the Salt Palace, home of Salt Lake Comic Con 2015. Every Superhero Run participant with SLCC tickets will be admitted into Salt Lake Comic Con during VIP hours the day of the race.
“We believe Utah has the most superheroes in the world, so we thought we would make it official with our world record attempt,” said Bryan Brandenburg, Salt Lake Comic Con Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer. “In addition to raising money and awareness for the wonderful work the hospital does, this will be another reminder to celebrities, agents, artists and authors around the world of just how great the fans in Salt Lake City are, and serve as another recruiting tool we have moving forward to help continue to make Salt Lake Comic Con the ‘greatest comic con in the world.’”
“We’re grateful to be able to partner with Salt Lake Comic Con for this Superhero Run and world record attempt,” said Steve Olson, Foundation Coordinator of Specialty Hospital of Utah. “We know it takes superhero efforts from our medical staff and team at the hospital to provide the world class care they do for our patients, who are the real superheroes, and we feel like this Superhero Run is a great way to honor individuals who face and overcome life’s challenges.”
