PICKUP™ Picks a Worthy Cause to Support While Offering Something to Families to Enjoy the Dog Days of Summer

Event Fundraiser to Benefit Veterans and Their Families

ADDISON, Texas--()--PICKUP™, the creators of on demand delivery app PICKUP, are flexing their “good guy” muscles in support of the “End of Summer Splash” event on August 22 to raise money to finance a new education program through Honor Courage Commitment that would help prevent veteran suicides.

The Veterans Administration released startling statistics in 2012 - the daily number of veteran suicides had reached at least 22 per day. The statistic could actually be a conservative one, because only 21 states report veteran status on death certificates. Some estimates report that the number of suicides per day could be as high as 47.

“We are working to prevent veteran suicides through education, mentorship and community service,” said John Bartell, veteran, PICKUP™ driver, and HCC 22 Fellow. “This event is one way the community can get involved to make a difference in these alarming statistics. Food, clothing and monetary donations will help bring this program to North Texas and help many families whose loved ones could be at risk.”

The event will be held on August 22 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Splash Kingdom Wild West Water Park located at 1001 Cinema Drive, Hudson Oaks, TX. Suggested donation amounts are as follows: Adults 18 and over $22, kids 17 and under $10. Donated items including macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, scarves, shoes or belts for any age are encouraged. If you bring a donated item, the recommended cash donation is $10 less than people who do not bring a donated item.

Sponsors of the event include “Living Aledo” Magazine, and the event will also benefit the Parker County Center of Hope, who provides food services to veterans, and the Aledo Children’s AdvoCats who assist with school lunches and supplies. Several 2015 pageant winners will be in attendance, including Mrs. International, Miss International, Miss Teen Texas International, Mrs. Fort Worth International and Mrs. Frisco International.
