ComEd Restores Power to 90 Percent of Customers Impacted by Severe Storms

More than 108,000 customers restored since the start of yesterday’s storms

CHICAGO--()--ComEd has restored power to more than 90 percent of the 120,000 customers impacted by severe thunderstorms that produced high winds, hail and heavy rain that swept through the Chicago area in two waves during Sunday afternoon and evening.

More than 650 crews are continuing to work on restoring power to approximately 10,600 customers. Yesterday’s storm arrived in two waves, one in the afternoon and one later in the evening, both caused severe damage leaving behind uprooted and broken trees, lifted rooftops and multiple downed power lines throughout the region.

The majority of remaining outages are in severely impacted areas, including Grayslake and Round Lake Beach in Lake County. According to the National Weather Service, a tornado may have touched down in Grayslake area where there is a lot of tree debris that must be cleared before the utility can further assess the extent of damage and safely restore power. ComEd has established a mobile command center in the Grayslake area.

“ComEd crews are focused on restoring power to every customer as quickly and safely as possible,” said Terence R. Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer for ComEd. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as we address impacted areas to repair damage caused by the storms and restore power.”

ComEd urges customers to contact the utility immediately if they are experiencing a power outage. Customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report their outage and receive restoration information.

ComEd also introduced a mobile app for iPhone and Android® smart phones, available in the app store for each platform, which gives customers the ability to report power outages and manage their accounts. In addition, customers can report outages through the website at ComEd.com or on ComEd’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/ComEd or by calling 1-800 EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661). Spanish-speaking customers should call 1-800-95-LUCES (1-800-955-8237).
