BEND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A6’s “Edward Curtis: Shadow Catcher” exhibit will open September 4, 2015, and run through October 31, 2015, in Bend, Oregon. Admission is free. The rare exhibit offers a window to the past, with more than 50 original vintage prints of Native American tribes from the Pacific Northwest photographed by Curtis in the early 1900s. Curtis’s portraits of chiefs, fishermen, warriors, and medicine women provide an intimate look at what Curtis feared was a vanishing way of life.
Every original Edward Curtis print in A6’s exhibit will be available for purchase. These vintage photographs come from original volumes and portfolios of Curtis’ The North American Indian. “Curtis Fever” will build throughout September and October with programs focused on the art, life, and legacy of Edward Curtis. High Desert Museum’s exhibit, “From the Vault: Edward S. Curtis’s The North American Indian,” runs Sep 4-Oct 31; the museum will also screen Curtis’ 1914 silent film, “In the Land of the Headhunters,” September 26 at the Tower Theatre. BendFilm will air Anne Peacemaker’s award-winning documentary, “Edward S. Curtis and the North American Indians,” as a prelude to its 2015 film festival. Deschutes Public Library welcomes author Timothy Egan October 1 to discuss his best-selling biography, Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis.
A6 will run exhibit tours every Saturday at 4 pm starting September 12 through October 31.
