Website Upgrade Enhances Mobile Viewing, Multimedia Advertising Options

BETHESDA, Md.--()--ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR magazine has launched a responsive website with a new advertising system to optimize mobile viewing on any device. The upgrade at www.ecmag.com was also built to boost ad value, adjusting advertisers’ assets for the device’s screen size to maximize visibility and response without intruding on the user experience.

With at least 62 percent of the magazine’s subscribers now using mobile devices, mostly smartphones, a responsive website will also help meet Google’s ranking criteria that began on April 21.

“Advertisers will now get premium viewing with faster page loading and enhanced multimedia options, while our mobile visitors enjoy a much better user experience,” said ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR Publisher John Maisel. “Our responsive site will also have a positive effect on our bounce rate, and help ensure we’re future-proofed for the rise in mixed-platform website usage.”

After rebuilding portions of the site from the ground up, www.ecmag.com will now consider the device that visitors are using, whether smartphone, tablet or desktop, and display the elements accordingly.

The responsive site’s primary benefits include a collapsing menu and search tools to allow visitors to quickly navigate to sections and search for subjects and keywords; integration of touch enabled sliders for swiping through related articles, products and photos; improved article layout; enhanced responsive landing pages for improved readability and interaction and fast loading content.

According to the magazine’s most recent study on mobile devices, usage grew to 73 percent in 2014, with smartphones rising to 67 percent and a spike in tablets to 31 percent.

ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR magazine and its supplement, Integrated Systems Contractor, have increased its multimedia content across all channels, including new e-newsletters and a mobile app available through the iTunes Store, Google Play and the Amazon App Store in iOS, Android and Kindle versions.
