HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Graylog, Inc. today announced that Wiland, a leading marketing intelligence company, is using its open source log management and analytics platform to automate a host of IT operations challenges. Wiland’s infrastructure team, which is using Graylog to manage all its servers and systems, has reduced manual operations and slashed time to resolution for solving critical IT problems.
Wiland’s products and services combine a vast transactional database, innovative analytical methodologies and advanced technology to deliver a comprehensive set of services to thousands of clients in a wide variety of markets and industries. The company wanted to centralize log management to proactively monitor its IT environment, and decrease the amount of time needed to troubleshoot and diagnose problems. After deploying the free version of a commercial log management offering, it exceeded data volume limits within 30 minutes of loading its files. Wiland instead turned to the open source Graylog platform.
“Graylog enables us to find the proverbial needle in the haystack when it comes to identifying problems in the vast noise of logs,” said David Peterson, System Administrator for Wiland. “We save approximately three to six hours of time per week across our entire operations team. Over the last six months, we have recouped a full week of productivity because of Graylog.”
Below is a sampling of use cases the company has addressed with Graylog, along with results:
- Wiland’s network shares and backup system would not connect to the Hadoop cluster they recently set up. Using Graylog’s search functionality, Wiland identified a global ACL rule that was denying the connection.
- To troubleshoot package issues with OpenSSL, Wiland was able to quickly search across 50 to 100 servers with a single query instead of looking at each server to see what packages were applied.
- Wiland moved some of its primary file systems and split the files across two NFS servers to better handle the data load. Checking the logs, Wiland was able to detect that one of its servers was still making requests at hundreds of messages per minute to a mount that wasn’t there.
“Log analytics is a powerful tool for IT operations, DevOps, security and more. It is especially valuable for organizations like Wiland that rely on technology for their competitive advantage,” said Michael Sklar, CEO of Graylog. “Unfortunately, most organizations cannot afford the gigabyte per day pricing associated with commercial log management products. That’s why Graylog is such a great alternative. We make log-based intelligence accessible to all companies and allow them to deploy it across as many use cases as they like.”
