Lewis & Clark Baseball League’s Third Annual All-Star Game Set for Thursday

Three All-Stars to be recognized for their longevity with the league

ST. LOUIS--()--The Lewis & Clark Baseball League, a collegiate summer baseball program, is set to play its Third Annual All-Star Game at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at TR Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, Mo.

Welcoming the All-Stars will be O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy who will throw the ceremonial first pitch. “I’m honored to throw out the first pitch for these fantastic young men,” Hennessy said.

“The players are not only great athletes and talented ballplayers, but they’re also dedicated students who are looking to make the most of their college experience and prepare themselves for a future both with and without baseball,” Hennessy said. “I’d love to see all of our residents come out and support these players as they participate in the Lewis and Clark Baseball League’s All-Star game.”

Fifty-eight players from across the St. Louis bi-state area were named All-Stars as the ballots closed at midnight yesterday. Pre-game festivities, including a home run derby and skills showcase, will start the night. Three of the All-Stars will also receive recognition for their longevity with the league.

“Without our players, we have nothing,” said Ross Clites, president of the Lewis & Clark Baseball League. “Three of our All-Stars have been leaders in all three years of the League’s existence. They’ve been with us since the beginning, and we appreciate their leap into the unknown in our inaugural year and their continued leadership in the League.”

Ben Greenway, of Fontbonne University, who plays for the Alton Pioneers; Konrad Kemper, of William Woods University, who plays for the St. Charles Captains; and, Lucas Doerhoff, of Missouri Valley College, who plays for the Lemay Governors, will each be honored. Athletes from 35 states and 170 colleges and universities have played in the League since it began 2013.

Unlike other summer collegiate leagues, the weekend-only conference gives student-athletes the opportunity to pursue both aspects of their college experience. Eight teams, split in two divisions, play 34 regular-season games and a playoff series.

“Student-athletes can sharpen their game playing against strong competition on the weekends while pursuing their education and gaining work experience during the week,” Clites said. “Our hope is to cultivate an atmosphere so more collegiate athletes find success in St. Louis and ultimately choose to stay. It makes for a win-win for the community and we invite everyone out to support these ballplayers.”
