CINCINNATI--()--With several states in the western United States facing severe drought, hotel operators across the U.S. are searching for ways to conserve water, comply with new regulations, avoid expensive fines and protect this valuable resource, while still delivering the best possible experience to their guests. P&G Professional™, the away from home division of Procter & Gamble, offers hoteliers a powerful tool for reducing water consumption with its Tide® Professional Coldwater Laundry System – an on-premise laundry program that enables facilities to reduce the water used in a commercial washer by up to 40 percent1 and the energy needed to heat the water in a commercial washer by as much as 75 percent2. Tide Professional Coldwater can help save as much as $8,700 per year3 (for a 150 room hotel) based on water, energy and linen replacement cost savings.

This type of laundry system can be most beneficial in states like California, where the governor recently mandated a 25 percent reduction in water usage statewide. But, water savings can be beneficial in any state, as it’s important for all hotel operators to consider the value of this important resource and take steps to protect it.

To decrease water consumption, Tide Professional Coldwater, which was recently recognized as a Silver Edison Green Award™ winner for its water and energy saving capabilities, uses an innovative wash process that reduces the number of fills and water used per wash. As a result, the Tide Professional Coldwater Laundry System can help reduce water usage by up to 40 percent.

“For hotels that have been required to cut back on water use or simply want to conserve resources, both natural and financial, the Tide Professional Coldwater Laundry System provides both water and energy reduction benefits while boosting bottom line savings,” said Paul Edmondson, Commercial Director, P&G Professional. “Hotel operators in drought afflicted states can help preserve natural resources yet still provide bright white, soft linens and towels to guests by using Tide Professional Coldwater.”

“Water is one of our most important resources, and as several U.S. states face severe drought, it’s imperative that hotel operators find ways to conserve water and energy,” said Steve Ashkin, President, The Ashkin Group. “Laundry care, specifically coldwater washing, is one area that can help decrease water and energy consumption, which is good for the environment and good for a hotel operator’s business.”

Tide Coldwater has an advanced formula that uses unique enzymes, specially designed for lower wash temperatures which help effectively break down stains without the need for higher water temperatures.

The Tide Professional Coldwater System includes four products – a near-neutral pH detergent, fabric softener, bleach and whiteness enhancer – all formulated to work together to deliver clean, soft linens and towels while using significantly less water at colder temperatures than traditional on-premise laundry systems. The system’s near-neutral pH formula and added Tide Professional Whiteness Enhancer also protects fabric integrity to keep linens looking newer longer to help reduce linen replacement costs by up to 15 percent4.

Beyond laundry operations, hotel restaurant kitchens can also be a hot spot for water use. Dawn Professional Manual Pot & Pan – proven to power through greasy dishes with fewer sink changeovers – can help hotels conserve in the kitchen. In fact, Dawn Manual Pot & Pan Detergent can reduce sink changeovers by 35 percent vs. a leading private label, which reduces hot water usage by up to 6,000 gallons per year5.
