BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HighRoads®, the industry leader in plan management and benefits compliance, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the company a patent for its compliance communications portal.
HighRoads’ portal is used by Fortune 500 companies to enable electronic distribution of documents and materials, providing employees with a self-service personalized view of current and historical documents for enrolled, and eligible, plans. Document access and confirmation of delivery supports safe harbor rules for electronic distribution. The portal allows employers to track all document distributions, notifications and actions taken by employees.
“From our earliest days, innovation has been at the heart of this company,” said Michael Byers, HighRoads’ CEO and president. “This patent award validates the superior technology our team has built to provide organizations with software to deliver and quantify compliant communications.”
With the portal, benefits administrators can send targeted alerts and notifications to eligible participants when documents are updated. Participants can search on key terms across documents, getting answers quickly.
“HighRoads’ compliance communications portal dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of distributing Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and Summaries of Benefits and Coverage (SBCs),” said Richard Wood, HighRoads’ vice president of product management. “Employers are able to manage document distribution and reduce call volume from participants, who have convenient 24x7 online access.”
The new patent, US 9,031,973, follows the patent HighRoads received for The Lab®, an award-winning benchmarking plan design database that powers the company’s annual Medical Plan Trends and Observations Report.
