CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Three exemplary Charlotte-area dads were announced today as Charlotte’s 2015 Fathers of the Year.
The well-known Charlotte Metrolina area businessmen were selected by the National Father’s Day Council, which honors fathers for their outstanding commitments to their children and the values of fatherhood. They will be honored June 19 at Charlotte’s 15th Annual Father of the Year Awards fundraiser, benefiting the American Diabetes Association. The honorees are:
- Carl S. Armato, president/CEO, Novant Health
- G. Patrick Phillips, retired, Bank of America
- Richard “Stick” Williams, president, Duke Energy Foundation
“We’re proud to honor these exceptional fathers, who have so admirably balanced their personal lives with successful careers and community service,” said Jim Kelligrew, 2015 co-chair of the Charlotte Father’s Day Council, which has honored 73 fathers and raised more than $4.5 million here for diabetes research and education. The Father of the Year Awards are held annually in 30 cities nationwide.
The black tie-optional gala is sponsored by Electrolux, The Chris and Susan Kearney Foundation, Nucor, Novant Health, US Bancorp, Ally Financial, Cigna, Hearst Corporation, WBTV, Charlotte Magazine, Piedmont Natural Gas, Snyder’s-Lance, Polypore, La Noticia, Diamonds Direct, Adams Outdoor Advertising and Southern Spirits. The American Diabetes Association continues to search for a cure for diabetes, the body’s inability to produce or respond to insulin, causing high blood sugar levels that often lead to blindness, kidney failure, amputation, heart attack and stroke, according to Dianne Roth, ADA executive director, central Carolinas area. “Without the $400,000 we’re raising from the gala, the ADA’s local outreach programs – serving more than 190,000 people in the Charlotte area who have diabetes – would be impossible.”
