The Society for General Microbiology Selects Copyright Clearance Center to Manage Article Processing Charges for Its Open Access Publications

Largest Microbiology Society in Europe to Use RightsLink® for Open Access to Streamline Entire Author Fee Transaction Process

DANVERS, Mass.--()--The Society for General Microbiology (SGM), the largest microbiology society in Europe, has chosen the RightsLink® for Open Access platform from Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a global licensing and content solutions organization, to manage Article Processing Charges (APCs) for its Open Access publications.

RightsLink for Open Access streamlines the entire author fee transaction for Open Access charges, page charges, color charges, and more, giving publishers an author-centric workflow powered by a robust pricing, discount and collections engine. Working with SGM’s manuscript management and production systems through CCC’s integration with Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager, the platform allows scholarly publishers to collect APCs seamlessly from within the Editorial Manager workflow. This provides SGM authors an easy-to-use platform for submitting publication charges.

“Open Access is a business reality for publishers in 2015,” said Jennifer Goodrich, Director of Product Management, RightsLink for Open Access, CCC. “Through RightsLink for Open Access, CCC has enabled SGM to easily integrate an author fee management solution into its manuscript management process, making APC payment straightforward and effortless.”

“Implementing CCC’s RightsLink for Open Access platform has helped streamline our internal operations,” said Kerry Cole, Head of Sales and Marketing, SGM. “As a result, we’re able to remain focused on our core mission of inspiring and educating people about microbiology while continuing to provide excellent service to our authors.”

As part of its commitment to education, CCC regularly updates its Open Access Resource Center in collaboration with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). The Center is a curated set of links to the latest Open Access news, reports, industry whitepapers, webinars and websites.
