Media General Announces New Washington, D.C. Bureau and Names Jim Osman as Bureau Chief

RICHMOND, Va.--()--Media General, Inc. (“Media General” or the “Company”; NYSE: MEG), one of the nation’s largest connected-screen media companies, today announced the opening of a new Washington, D.C. Bureau and named Jim Osman, 18-time Emmy Award winning political and investigative reporter, as the Company’s Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief.

Media General’s Washington, D.C. Bureau will provide breaking news, political news and analysis, in-depth investigative reporting, and other stories of interest to the Company’s local television stations in 48 markets nationwide, as well as its content-producing digital businesses.

Mr. Osman has more than 15 years of experience covering state and national political campaigns, creating and reporting impactful stories, leading multimedia teams on various enterprise stories, and promoting the highest standards of ethical journalism in the industry. Most recently, he was Contributing Reporter for WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. Prior to that role, he served as the National Investigative Correspondent for Scripps Television, where he covered Capitol Hill and Washington, D.C. based government accountability pieces. Mr. Osman has also reported for other major markets, including KYW-TV in Philadelphia, PA and KNXV-TV in Phoenix, AZ. In addition to his Regional Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reporting, he has earned two National Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Investigative Reporting and three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

In his new role, Mr. Osman will be responsible for developing, reporting and sharing original stories of interest to the Company’s 71 local stations, reporting “Live” for all screens from crisis locations and on breaking news, and managing and recruiting talent in order to grow Media General’s new Washington, D.C. Bureau.

Mr. Osman is an honors graduate with a Broadcast Journalism degree from the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University. He also completed Georgetown University's Institute on Political Journalism while interning at NBC News' Meet the Press with Tim Russert. Mr. Osman is a native of the Philadelphia area and resides in Washington, D.C.
