Kaplan University Debuts “Shine On” Series to Celebrate Leaders in Education, Nursing and Public Service

KU Honors Esteemed Professionals Making a Difference in their Fields

DAVENPORT, Iowa--()--Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, is celebrating several nationally recognized career awareness days with the launch of initiatives supporting professionals in the teaching, nursing and public service fields.

For over 75 years, Kaplan has built and maintained a legacy of helping professionals achieve their educational goals and advance their careers. As part of that legacy, Kaplan University announces the launch of the Shine On Teachers, Shine On Nurses and Shine on Public Service series, in support of professionals who are making a positive impact in these fields. Shine On initiatives include a partnership with TakePart that features panel discussion and free streaming of two documentaries, launching a nursing forum, and several pieces of inspirational content and video vignettes around those professions.

  • School of Education: The Shine On Teachers series spotlights faculty and alumni’s most teachable moments. Additionally, KU is partnering with TakePart, to host the “Teachable Moments: Igniting the Spark to Teach” panel, to be held on May 14, 2015 at 7:00 pm ET. Experts from the School of Education and educators from the film TEACH will discuss their careers and how life changing a good teacher can be.   • School of Nursing: The Shine On Nurses series spotlights nurses who are progressing in the role of advanced practice registered nurses in healthcare. Dean of Kaplan University’s School of Nursing, Chandice Covington, narrates a special video introducing the series and its honorees. The series is housed on the Professional Nursing Forum, which shares industry experience insights and articles, thought leadership and resources for career advancement.   • School of Social and Behavioral Sciences: Shine On Public Service honors several national awareness dates in May, including Public Service Recognition Week, International Firefighters' Day and Police Week. Narrated by Georgia State Representative and Kaplan University faculty member Dr. Karla Drenner, the series highlights four professionals who are making a difference in the lives of others through different areas of public service: human services, psychology, public safety and public administration. The series adds to Kaplan University’s resources designed to inspire and support professional development, like the Center for Public Service.
