AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Packet Design has become the first company to correlate performance and latency metrics with path analytics through the addition of Performance Explorer, a new module in version 15.1 of its Explorer Suite. The Performance Explorer product – combined with Packet Design’s real-time route analytics (Route Explorer) and traffic flow data (Traffic Explorer) – provides unprecedented visibility into network service delivery.
With this insight, enterprises and service providers can deliver a higher level of application services with faster troubleshooting and reduced service downtime, as well as better manage SLAs. Service providers in particular can deliver new services faster, decrease SLA penalties, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce customer turnover.

Packet Design Performance Explorer collects end-to-end and hop-by-hop latency metrics, supporting all major equipment manufacturers’ performance tests including Cisco IP SLA, Juniper RPM, Alcatel-Lucent SAA, and Huawei NQA. In addition, Performance Explorer monitors device performance metrics to quickly isolate the source of poor service delivery across the network.
Used with the Explorer Suite, these capabilities help organizations improve service delivery by resolving network-related performance issues more quickly and modeling how network changes and new workloads may impact the performance of specific services. Also, by continually collecting routing event and traffic flow data as well as analyzing historical network behavior, the Explorer Suite captures the intermittent conditions that can seriously disrupt service traffic delivery but other tools miss between polling cycles.
In addition, the Explorer Suite with the new Performance Explorer module is the foundation for SDN applications the company will introduce this year. The first application will enable organizations to automatically optimize and provision traffic engineered (TE) tunnels. This will leverage the suite’s always-current network models, traffic profiles, and performance data to verify if requested TE tunnels’ bandwidth, and latency requirements can be accommodated without impacting other services adversely. If so, it will calculate the best paths and provision the tunnels via the OpenDaylight controller.
