Surgical Hospitalist Programs Provide Results

Case Study Presented by Surgical Affiliates’ CEO, Leon Owens, M.D. at American Association for Physician Leadership Annual (AAPL) Meeting

--()--Surgical Affiliates Management Group:

What:

In a presentation entitled “Understanding the Value Proposition and Return on Investment a Surgical Hospitalist Program Brings to Hospitals,” at the American Association for Physician Leadership 2015 Annual Meeting & Spring Institute, Leon Owens, M.D. FACS, will share insights and results of how a surgical hospitalist program solved one hospital’s problems. Using a case study conducted over a five-year period of time, Dr. Owens will illustrate how applying the standards that have transformed trauma care to the acute care surgery arena is the next step in driving patient safety and quality to new levels, while lowering costs and reducing length of stay without increasing readmissions.

Their experience demonstrates that the surgical hospitalist model is much more than a solution for surgical call coverage—it is a breakthrough in resolving ongoing challenges of reducing complications, improving outcomes, lowering costs, and increasing efficiency—enabling hospitals to be successful in a world driven by value-based payment. Surgical Affiliates’ hospital partners report results such as a 72% reduction in the rate of complications from acute care surgeries, a 66% decline in the thirty-day readmission rate, and a 12% drop in length of stay.
