MANCHESTER, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bob’s Discount Furniture is donating $40,000 this month to sponsor the March of Dimes annual March for Babies events in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and Rhode Island. Bob’s has worked closely with the March of Dimes to support the annual fundraising program for the past 19 years.
As usual, Bob’s expects several teams of its employees to participate in upcoming marches around the region. Employees who can’t attend because they are working will show their support by wearing buttons with the message: “We’re walking while we’re working for the March of Dimes.”
This year, the company has also recorded a television public service announcement (PSA) that will air in 11 states, encouraging viewers to register for March for Babies events and raising awareness of the non-profit organization’s important contributions to identifying the causes of premature birth and finding ways to prevent it. The PSA features March of Dimes Ambassadors Miguel and Nancy Proano of Manchester, Conn., who lost their unborn son, Angel, in 2012 because of triploidy, a rare chromosomal abnormality.
“For nearly two decades, Bob’s has supported the March of Dimes and its important mission of giving all babies a healthy start,” says Cathy Poulin, public relations director, Bob’s Discount Furniture. “We’re proud to sponsor these annual March for Babies events, and we encourage everyone else to register and join in the fun.”
“Our sincere thanks go out to Bob, Cathy and the great team at Bob’s Discount Furniture for their many years of support and encouragement,” says Marc Spencer, division executive director of March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter. “We value their longtime partnership and look forward to many more years of working together to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.”
March for Babies is the March of Dimes largest fundraising event, generating nearly $100 million each year. The organization’s Connecticut chapter is planning seven marches and a 5K run at several locations around the state this year, with a combined goal of raising $1.4 million over two weekends.
