Highland Therapeutics Announces Receipt of Two Notices of Allowance for Patents on Lead Product

TORONTO--()--Highland Therapeutics Inc. (“Highland”), a pharmaceutical company, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) has issued two Notices of Allowance for patent applications for HLD-200, a novel formulation of methylphenidate designed to be taken once-daily in the evening with the objective of controlling symptoms of ADHD immediately upon awakening and throughout the day.

The Notices of Allowance are for U.S. Patent Applications No. 14/577,529, “Methods for Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” and 14/589,839 “Compositions for Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder”, owned by Highland’s wholly owned subsidiary, Ironshore Pharmaceuticals & Development, Inc. (“Ironshore”).

A Notice of Allowance signals the end of the substantive examination of the patent application by the USPTO. After the administrative processing period is complete, two U.S. patents will be issued, likely in April 2015. The U.S. patents scheduled to issue from these applications will expire in 2032. After issuance, Ironshore plans to list the patents in the FDA’s Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations, commonly referred to as the Orange Book, upon U.S. regulatory approval of HLD-200.
