Associates in Oncology/Hematology Joins Maryland Oncology Hematology

Collaboration strengthens both practices, enhancing patient care, research opportunities and access to services throughout Maryland

COLUMBIA, Md.--()--Maryland Oncology Hematology (MOH), a premier provider of advanced cancer care services throughout the Maryland/Washington D.C. region and an affiliate of The US Oncology Network, announced today that Associates in Oncology/Hematology (AOH) has joined its practice. The union enhances patient care services and research opportunities for both practices while expanding MOH’s reach throughout the area by adding treatment locations in Bethesda and Rockville. The seven medical oncologists and hematologists from AOH unite with Maryland Oncology Hematology’s group of 21 physicians to provide comprehensive state-of-the-art cancer care in convenient, patient-friendly community settings.

“Our first priority has always been to provide the highest level of advanced cancer care to our patients,” said Joseph M. Haggerty, MD, FACP, medical oncologist, AOH. “By uniting with Maryland Oncology Hematology and The US Oncology Network, we can continue building on our tradition of excellence by enhancing our patient care services and clinical trials, giving cancer patients in our area access to even more cutting-edge treatment options close to home where they have the support of family and friends. Clinical research has always been an important component of the care we deliver, and now our patients have access to even more promising clinical trials through our relationship with US Oncology Research. This is an exciting development for cancer patients and the entire medical community, as well as our practice.”

By joining Maryland Oncology Hematology, AOH physicians can utilize Value Pathways powered by NCCN®—evidence-based treatment guidelines developed by physicians and clinicians in The Network together with NCCN—as well as collaborate with an expanded physician community across the country through The US Oncology Network’s 1,000 affiliated physicians. As members of The US Oncology Network, physicians and clinicians share expertise and best practices through committees, workshops, conferences and via The Oncology Portal, a secure on-line portal where physicians can share data and collaborate on complex cases. AOH also gains access to innovative technologies and services that will further support their operational efficiency.

The addition of AOH’s seven highly-skilled medical oncologists and hematologists will bring new areas of expertise to Maryland Oncology Hematology and enhance opportunities for physician to physician collaboration. It also enables MOH to serve more patients in a timely fashion as well as expand its service area through the addition of AOH’s two state-of-the-art treatment centers located in the Johns Hopkins Health Care and Surgery Center in Bethesda and in the Shady Grove Aquilino Cancer Center (ACC) in Rockville, Maryland. The addition of the well-respected AOH research program further strengthens MOH’s treatment and research capabilities.

“Associates in Oncology/Hematology is extremely well respected in the cancer care community as a practice that provides patient-centered, high-quality, cutting-edge care with a strong passion for research,” said Edward J. Lee, MD, medical oncologist, MOH. “Our collaboration with this team of like-minded, highly-trained physicians who share our vision of providing leading-edge community-based care is a perfect fit. We are excited to have AOH join our team, and we look forward to working with them to advance cancer care throughout our region, one patient at a time.”
