Seagate Nytro Solution Selected by China’s QingCloud to Boost Performance of Cloud Platform

Seagate Nytro PCIe Flash Helps QingCloud to Deliver Increased Infrastructure-as-a-Service Performance

BEIJING--()--Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ:STX), a world leader in storage solutions, has announced that its Nytro® family of PCIe-based flash acceleration cards —the XP6209—has been selected by China’s foremost Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider QingCloud to enhance the performance and capabilities of its cutting-edge cloud service. QingCloud delivers a safe, reliable, on-demand and real-time IT resource delivery platform to enterprise users.

QingCloud’s enterprise clients demand increasingly higher levels of computing performance and lower latency, which traditional low-profile server systems struggle to meet. Nytro flash cards are designed to deliver high performance, reduced latency and a low CPU burden for the most demanding database applications and I/O-intensive workloads.

“QingCloud focuses on leading-edge technologies in the cloud computing industry, and provides cloud computing infrastructure solutions with high efficiency and performance, lower cost and warranty of business continuity and security for customers,” said Reno Gan, co-founder & vice president of R&D, QingCloud. “Seagate’s Nytro solution offers us a significantly improved system response time and lower total cost of ownership, enabling QingCloud to help more enterprise users enhance their IT system resource utilization and provide cloud services with better safety, convenience, stability and quality.”

QingCloud found that Seagate Nytro cards’ response time performance was significantly better when compared to other PCIe products, effectively improving stability and performance needed by cloud applications while lowering costs. The comprehensive Nytro product portfolio of flash accelerator cards combines PCIe flash technology with intelligent management software.

“At present, per GB costs of PCIe-based flash memory are rather high, which prevents most companies from using PCIe-based flash products. Seagate’s Nytro product portfolio combines the high performance and low total owner cost of PCIe-based flash, overcoming this challenge,” said Thad Omura, vice president of Product & Customer Management, Flash Products, Seagate. “We are excited that QingCloud has selected our Nytro product to help further consolidate its position as a leading basic cloud service provider in China and provide customers with an optimized storage platform and relevant cloud infrastructure services.”

Figures from market research firm IDC indicate a potential 30 percent growth annually in both private and public clouds in China over the next several years, generating higher services levels for cloud providers specializing in IaaS.

Enterprises utilizing the QingCloud platform require high performance and large capacity flash cards. Designed to address the pain points from cloud providers for both high performance and high capacity, the Seagate Nytro PCIe flash accelerator cards deliver low-profile and thermally optimized hyper-converged designs to meet customers' needs for increased capacity density.
