ROSARITO BEACH, Mexico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Baja’s largest and most famous beachfront resort is celebrating its 90th year of hospitality with a host of specials and events to mark its May 25, 1925 founding.
The Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa began as a modest 12-room hunting lodge but now has 500 rooms and luxury suites in three towers. Just 30 miles south of San Diego, it has hosted millions of guests in nine decades, including Hollywood stars and world leaders.
“This is a huge anniversary for us, just 10 years from our centennial, and we plan to make it a grand celebration for visitors as well as the local community,” said resort owner Hugo Torres
Through May 21, deluxe condominiums in the 17-story Pacifico Tower are offered for $90, Mondays through Thursday, with holidays and special events excluded. A $90 special in the Coronado Tower includes getaway dinners for two and a commemorative bottle of wine.
From now until March 17, with holiday periods excluded, the resort offers a limited number of standard oceanfront rooms in its Coronado Tower for $19.25, Sundays through Fridays.
“Prices like these have not been seen here since the 1940s,” said Mr. Torres. For a limited time in the resort’s Casa Playa Spa, once the luxurious home of the founding family, a 60-minute facial plus 30-minute Swedish massage, or two 40-minute Swedish massages, are $90.
A highlight of the 90th year will be a gala dinner dance on May 16 in the resort’s El Mexicano ballroom. The resort just concluded two of its busiest years ever, so booking early is suggested.
Reservations can be made by calling 1-866-ROSARITO (from the U.S.) or 01-800-265-2322 (from Mexico). More details about the resort and specials are available at www.rosaritobeachhotel.com.
The popular tourist region of Rosarito grew up around the resort, founded by Baja visionary Manual Barbachano and his actress/wife Maria Luisa Chabert, for whom he built the resort, said Mr. Torres, who is the couple’s nephew.
Today, the hotel encompasses three towers, restaurants, bars and full-service spa. As well as hosting millions of visitors, the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa offers ownership in its luxurious Pacifico Tower through its Residences condo-hotel program.
The ornate lobby entrance to the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa depicts a lovely senorita with guitar and bears this message: Through this door pass the most beautiful women in the world.
Those have included Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak plus scores more. They mingled among the likes of Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck, Orson Welles, John Wayne and recently Robert Redford.
Nearby attractions including the Puerto Nuevo lobster village, Guadalupe Valley wine country, Baja Studios (where Titanic was filmed), a vibrant arts scene and innovative cuisine continue to attract more visitors and expat residents to the resort and region.
