Vertex Formalizes Relationship with Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology

Vertex joins the IST Corporate Associates Program

BERWYN, Pa.--()--Vertex Inc., the leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions and services, has partnered with the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at Penn State University to become an IST Corporate Associate. The partnership facilitates Vertex sponsorship of high-level student teams focused on finding solutions to real-world problems, in this case, designing concepts applicable to some of the emerging trends that can impact tax technology.

"We are pleased to formalize our relationship with Vertex after working closely with the company on a project basis for the past three years," said Mary Beth Rosson, Ph.D., Interim Dean of the College of Information Sciences and Technology. "The College of IST is privileged to have many beneficial relationships with corporate, academic, and government organizations. Partnerships, like this one with Vertex, are essential to IST and we recognize that a significant amount of value is gained by both our College and the business."

The Corporate Associates Program provides an opportunity for companies to develop long-lasting, strategic partnerships with the College of IST and affords them unique access to its students, staff, and faculty, such as participation in classroom projects. Vertex collaborated with Dr. Shawn Clark and his IST 440W - Information Sciences and Technology Integration class to analyze data through social networking and discover and maintain tax information via a Wikipedia-esque prototype (imagine a “Tax-ipedia”). Under the leadership of Michael Roytman, Vertex Senior Enterprise Architect, students were taught to leverage internal and external teams to build, market and sell applications on top of a software platform.

“At Vertex, we understand that the skills gap continues to widen, particularly in the U.S. where there is a growing need to develop science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in students of all ages,” said John Viglione, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Vertex Inc. “Vertex is excited to build on its existing relationship and strengthen its partnership with the College of IST at Penn State through its Corporate Associates Program.”
