Fairfax County EDA in 2014 worked with 189 businesses adding more than 6,800 jobs to the local economy

Companies expanding and relocating included 37 foreign-owned, 19 minority-owned firms

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va.--()--In 2014, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) worked with 189 businesses adding more than 6,800 jobs to the Fairfax County economy. Companies in the professional services and information technology sectors dominated the year’s announcements.

“Even in a challenging regional economy, Fairfax County continues to be a location of choice for companies that want to capitalize on the county’s highly skilled workforce, wide range of real estate options and high-quality public services,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “The companies that announced expansions and relocations showcase our strengths in technology and professional services and highlight the diversified economic base that we are building.”

Of the 189 companies making job announcements in 2014, 152 are U.S.-based businesses. Prominent announcements included those from business software firm Carahsoft Technology Corp., which added 180 jobs; defense and security company CACI International Inc., which added 155; Helix Electric, an engineering and construction firm, which added 126 jobs; and software firm Appian, which added 125 jobs.

Among the announcements from U.S. firms, 19 came from minority-owned, woman-owned or veteran-owned companies. These include IT services firm Constellation West, which moved to Fairfax County from Nebraska and created 142 jobs here; Cvent, an event-management software firm, which added 100 jobs; IT services firm TCoombs & Associates, LLC, which created 70 jobs; and Zantech IT Services, Inc., which added 50 jobs.

Thirty-seven companies with headquarters or parent companies overseas announced expansions in 2014, including Volkswagen of America, Inc. (Germany), adding 76 jobs; Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. (Sweden), adding 40 jobs; and Adaequare (India), a software firm that added 15 jobs. More than 410 foreign-owned firms from 45 countries maintain operations in Fairfax County.

Time magazine called Fairfax County “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” Business growth and innovation helps Fairfax County fund the nation’s top-rated school system and other public services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a vibrant investment capital community and a highly skilled, well-educated workforce.
