“Gambling Creep” Video Offers 3 Minute History on Gambling in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla.--()--No Casinos, Inc. has unveiled a lively new video, “Gambling Creep,” that chronicles how, despite best intentions by policy makers, expansions of gambling can never be “limited” as the gambling industry always promises.

The fast-paced, animated presentation tracks the spread of casino gambling outside of Las Vegas to Atlantic City and beyond from the late 1970s through to current lobbying efforts in Tallahassee by outside gambling conglomerates who want to bring the world’s largest “destination resort” casinos to our state.

“Gambling Creep” colorfully illustrates how each stage of seemingly simple and benign expansion in Florida – from pari-mutuels to the Florida lottery to tribal Indian gaming rights – has inevitably led to unintended growth in the gambling industry here.

“History shows us very clearly that every so-called ‘limited’ expansion of gambling in Florida has always led to more gambling than was promised,” said John Sowinski, president of No Casinos. “Time and again we have seen that you can’t stop, manage or control gambling by expanding gambling. As the video warns, ‘It won’t stop there,’ and it would be foolish to believe that the current expansion push by gambling lobbyists will produce a different outcome. They will always want more.”
