IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cylance, the first math and machine learning-based advanced threat detection and prevention cybersecurity company, today announced it has joined the Microsoft Virus Initiative (MVI) and the Virus Information Alliance (VIA), also managed by Microsoft. Cylance is one of the first non-signature based security providers to be accepted into either program, underscoring the company’s leadership in an industry that calls for greater protection and innovation.
“We are thrilled to be part of the MVI program – a program for companies that produce antimalware technology,” said Stuart McClure, CEO at Cylance. “We have found that our new approach to cybersecurity, founded in math and machine learning principles, results in significantly higher detection and protection rates against malware.”
As a member of MVI, Cylance is officially recognized by Microsoft as a viable antivirus and receives access to Windows APIs, allowing it to deliver better protection. Member companies must create their own proprietary antimalware or antivirus product that meets industry certification standards, and are expected to contribute to the security industry at large.
VIA is an antimalware collaboration program for security software providers, security service providers, antimalware testing organizations and other organizations involved in fighting cybercrime. Members of the VIA collaborate by exchanging technical information on malicious software with Microsoft, with the goal of improving protection for Microsoft customers.
“The world of cybersecurity is evolving rapidly, and at Microsoft we’re always on the lookout for ways to stay ahead of attackers,” said Dennis Batchelder, Partner Director for the Microsoft Malware Protection Center. “Cylance’s sophisticated use of math and machine learning to analyze files can be a disruptive approach in the cybersecurity industry. We look forward to working with them.”
