Barnes & Noble’s Annual Holiday Book Drive Donates Nearly 1.5 Million Books to Children in Need

Barnes & Noble Also Donates More Than $200,000 Worth of Toys and Games to Toys for Tots Foundation

NEW YORK--()--Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced that it collected and donated nearly 1.5 million books to more than 650 local charities across the country that provide services to children during its 2014 Holiday Book Drive program.

The donation was made possible through the generous support of Barnes & Noble customers and booksellers who purchased books for donation at Barnes & Noble bookstores nationwide between November 1, 2014, and January 1, 2015. Community partners have already begun distributing the books collected by Barnes & Noble booksellers to schools, libraries and social service organizations.

Additionally, Barnes & Noble also made a donation to The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to help make the holidays brighter for economically disadvantaged children. The donation featured more than $200,000 worth of merchandise, comprising 20 pallets and more than 11,000 units of products, including a handpicked selection of puzzles, plush toys, board games, electronic games, infant toys and many more fun and educational toys and games, and a full pallet of candy.

“The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive is an honored tradition for our 35,000 booksellers,” said Sarah DiFrancesco, Vice President, Business Development for Barnes & Noble. “For more than 20 years our stores have partnered with local charities of their choosing donating millions of books to children in need. Our customers and booksellers rally around the cause and show the true spirit of the season by giving generously with donations of books. The result is millions of happy children across the country. It’s no wonder our annual Holiday Book Drive is one of our favorite community relations initiatives.”
