SEOUL, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--While a variety of mobile messengers, such as Line, Whatsapp, Snapchat and Yo, are available, a start-up introduced the simplest messenger app ‘Knock’ that enables users to communicate without transmitting even a letter.
This new app ‘Knock’ allows users to communicate with others using vibration patterns instead of text. It recognizes and transmits vibration patterns to mobile devices of others when smart phone or smart watch users lightly tap the display of their devices. Users can exchange vibration messages even on a locked screen. Its major advantages include simple communication using vibration patterns exchanged depending on situation and context.
Jason Ku, the founder of ‘Knock’, said, “I came to create a simple communication tool as I had experiences of being disturbed by numerous messages from friends like ‘What’s up?’ even just before falling asleep and it was troublesome to respond to them by typing letters while half asleep. I first used vibration patterns with friends, and evolved it into a service.”
Poking-type of messages that simply say ‘What’s up?’, with no particular objective, account for a considerable percentage of messages. It simply reflects desire for telling one’s existence. As a tool of communication that can satisfy this desire, Jason chose vibration.
Vibration patterns carry meaning as they deliver sentiments appropriate to relationship between friends. For example, when two lovers exchanged vibration messages right before falling asleep, they may mean ‘good night’ for the two. In this way, meaningful communications are constituted with appropriate sentiments between two persons without voice, text or video messages.
‘Knock’ will support functions of message receiving sound on special occasions. It will provide melodies of ‘Merry Christmas’, ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘Happy Birthday’ on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day and birthday, respectively, eliminating the need for sending text messages on every special day.
