Code Fellows Expands 2015 Course Offerings in Seattle and Portland

Digital Trade School Eclipses 300 Graduates; Sees 97% of Grads Launch Promising Tech Careers

SEATTLE--()--Code Fellows, the Seattle-based digital trade school, today announced that in less than two years it has surpassed the 300 graduate milestone – and that it has expanded its course offering for 2015, introducing its first Development Accelerator courses in Portland, OR, as well as additional Computer Science & Web Development courses in Seattle.

Code Fellows will also offer more courses in the first quarter of 2015 than in any previous quarter. In Portland, the company will conduct additional night classes and a 4-week intensive Web Development Bootcamp for beginners. In Seattle, it will offer a full schedule of Development Accelerators, Bootcamps, and night classes.

“We feel extremely fortunate,” said Kristin Smith, CEO of Code Fellows. “Code Fellows has grown almost entirely by word of mouth, and as we’ve graduated and placed job-ready developers, and our alumni network has grown, the demand for our courses has also continued to expand. Expanding our offerings in Seattle, and offering intensive courses in Portland for the first time will allow us to meet demand and accommodate more students.”

In September, Code Fellows announced its expansion into Portland, introducing its 4-week Foundations I courses, designed to teach the basics of Computer Science and Web Development. Many students from the class will continue to more advanced learning in upcoming classes.

The first 8-week, Portland-based Development Accelerator course – designed to build on a student’s existing knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and professional industry experience – will start March 16th and will cover the core JavaScript language, as well as jQuery, Backbone.js, Node.js, Ember.js, and Angular.js. Students participating in Portland Development Accelerator programs will be eligible for Code Fellows’ job-offer guarantee.

“The job offer guarantee is important to us,” Smith said. “It ensures that we’re aligned with our students and invested in helping them land the jobs they want, whether in Portland, Seattle, or new locations in the future.”

According to Code Fellows’ recently published data, there are now 308 graduates of its Development Accelerator program, with 81% of them receiving a job offer within three months of graduating. The average starting salary for a Code Fellows graduate is $75,600 per year – with a top reported salary offer of $155,000.

“Most graduates will land jobs as web developers, mobile developers, front-end UI/UX designers, or design technologists,” Smith said. “Some are also pursuing careers in Data Science, Machine Learning, DevOps, and other back-end and data-heavy fields. Meanwhile, about 18% of our graduates will go on to start their own companies. There’s a tremendous amount of opportunity for our graduates in today’s tech hiring environment.”

Interestingly, over half of Code Fellows alumni do not come from a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) background. Furthermore, 65% of graduates had already earned a Bachelor’s degree, 6% of students came with an Associate’s, and 11% had earned a Master’s degree.
