DENVER--()--Saint Joseph Hospital has completed the move to its new building at 19th Avenue and Lafayette Street (1375 E. 19th Ave.), just two blocks west of its former location. Beginning at 7 a.m. today, hospital staff moved 181 patients from the old building into the new one. The move was completed at 3:19 p.m.

Saint Joseph Hospital delivers more than 4,000 babies each year, and the first baby to be born in the new hospital, a boy, was delivered at 2:27 p.m. This is the family’s fifth baby, and all five of the family’s babies were born at Saint Joseph Hospital.

“We’re thrilled to announce that today, 12/13/14, the new Saint Joseph Hospital is open,” said Bain Farris, President and CEO of Saint Joseph Hospital. “After more than three years of detailed planning, trying to anticipate every possible situation and arranging each detail to safely relocate patients and to provide peace-of-mind for our patients’ loved ones, we’re grateful the move went so smoothly.”

The new Saint Joseph Hospital was designed to be a model for 21st century hospitals, with patient-centered care a primary focus of the new design. Features include:

  • A smaller footprint than the old hospital thanks to the more efficient use of space and resources (831,321 new sq. ft. vs. 1.1 million sq. ft. in the old hospital)
  • 365 patient rooms (all private)
  • 42 private emergency room beds with 12 dedicated to seniors
  • Every floor has direct access to fresh air and outdoor space
  • A green design focused on spiritually nurturing spaces and a healing environment, inside and out.

With a history of serving the community for 141 years, Saint Joseph Hospital will continue the tradition of high-quality, affordable healthcare with a specialized focus in cardiology, mom/baby care and oncology.
