WHAT: Vital Voices Global Partnership will honor Vice President Joe Biden, Sir Patrick Stewart, former NFL player Don McPherson, and South African activist Bafana Khumalo with the Solidarity Award, commemorating their tireless work to end violence against women. The award ceremony will take place at the Voices of Solidarity event, which recognizes men who have shown courage and compassion in advocating on behalf of women and girls everywhere.
Violence against women is endemic both in the United States and around the world and persists in many forms: domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and harmful traditional practices. One in three women globally will experience violence from an intimate partner within her lifetime. Men such as these awardees are critical to this issue, and their unified voices are instrumental in decreasing the incidence of violence against women.
