1E Introduces Shopping 5.1 to Enhance Security and Accessibility for IT Self Service within the Enterprise

New release provides security enhancements and improved support for touch-based devices

Shopping 5.1 is the App Store for the Enterprise, that offers an intuitive, consumer-like App Store interface with full integration into Microsoft SCCM to ensure that users are only ever a click away from the software and IT services they need.

This release introduces two significant new features: Microsoft SCCM 2012 Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Compatibility and Touch Device Support. The updates build out Shopping’s existing capabilities to ensure that the product continues to meet the needs of even the largest organizations with back-end controls and workflow integration to handle all enterprise IT provisioning requirements in one place.

Shopping’s compliance with RBAC provides SCCM administrators with an easy yet comprehensive security model that allows them to allocate and manage administrative permissions by assigning the actions that administrators can perform by using RBAC Security Roles. By adhering to these roles, Shopping ensures that administrators and end-users can only manage or access applications based on their SCCM Security Scope, and that administrators are only able to manage devices and users based on their associated SCCM collections.

In addition to RBAC compatibility, Shopping is also now compatible with the Apple iPad, Microsoft Surface Pro and touch monitors running Windows. As modern enterprises continue to shift more and more toward multiple hardware platforms, these new ways of accessing Shopping will enable organizations to finally move towards a “Single Pane of Glass” for software and service requests between IT and the end-user.

  • Integration with service desk solutions: For cases when business process mandates using an existing ticketing system, Shopping integrates seamlessly with all the major solutions, such as Service Now, BMC Remedy, and HP Service Manager – ultimately reducing manual intervention and increasing the throughput of IT requests, while allowing Shopping to fit easily into existing IT environments
  • Flexible approval flow: An inbuilt approval mechanism enables Shopping administrator to select business managers (or their deputies) as approvers, and with email notifications when they need to approve users’ requests. With the additional touch device support, you can now approve on the go
  • Customization and localization: The Shopping UI not only provides a consumer-grade experience but is also very customizable. Most components on the portal, from company logo to languages to email templates, can be tailored with the corporate brand of the customer
  • License management: Shopping provides visibility and control of software licenses deployed across the organization, improving software license management and compliance
  • Software rental: Since many users only need certain applications for a specific period, users can rent the application instead of permanently installing it. This can save organizations millions in software licensing costs.
