Family & Nursing Care Accepted into “Maryland Green Registry” of Businesses in State that Show Commitment to Environment

-- Statewide recognition latest in series of recent environmental honors for company --

SILVER SPRING, Md.--()--Family & Nursing Care, the leading provider of private duty home care services in Maryland and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, today announced that it has been accepted into the Maryland Green Registry of environmentally responsible businesses.

The Maryland Green Registry was launched in June 2009 as part of the State’s Smart, Green and Growing initiative. Membership is free and encourages businesses, churches, schools, governments and other organizations to share information on the practices they have in place to reduce the environmental impact of their facilities and services.

“Maryland businesses and other organizations already know that even relatively simple steps to reduce our impact on the environment save money and create a healthier workplace,” said Governor Martin O’Malley. “The Maryland Green Registry provides an opportunity for these organizations to share their stories and inspire others to take steps to protect our air and our water, including the Chesapeake Bay.”

Collectively, Registry members have saved more than $79 million annually through sustainable practices.

“We are committed to operating our business in a sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner, so we’re gratified and honored to be accepted into the Maryland Green Registry,” said Mindy Kursban, vice president at Family & Nursing Care. “We’re delighted to share our experience with other Maryland businesses and hope that we can encourage others to pursue sustainability as well.”

Family & Nursing Care has a strong track record of environmental leadership. Earlier this year, the company was certified by Montgomery County (Maryland) as a “Green Business” in recognition of the voluntary steps it has taken to protect, preserve and improve the environment. Kursban also served as a guest speaker at the Montgomery County Green Business Forum, where she shared her perspective on the advantages of operating a green business and encouraged other Montgomery County businesses to make the commitment as well.

In addition, Family & Nursing Care was honored this year with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection’s “Partners in Recycling” award, the third recycling award the company has received since 2010.

Family & Nursing Care has implemented a number of aggressive sustainability measures in its business operations. This includes the appointment of a sustainability team that oversees the company’s environmental goals, the purchase of sustainably printed materials from a “green” printer, use of copier/printer paper that is made with 100% post-consumer recycled content, a comprehensive recycling program, the use of energy-efficient lighting, employee subsidies for use of public transportation, and other specific environmental commitments.
