Pantene Beautiful Lengths Continues to Make a Difference for Women Battling Cancer

New Monetary Fund will enable the creation of more real-hair wigs than ever before

CINCINNATI--()--All it takes is 8 inches of hair to make a tremendous difference in the life of a woman battling cancer. Over the past eight years, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society®, has gained a passionate following, with generous hair donations being the driving force behind the wig creation and wig donation program. While hair donations will continue to be at the heart of Pantene Beautiful Lengths, many people are unable to donate hair due to requirements and restrictions and have tried to make monetary donations in lieu of a ponytail. This was not possible…until now.

Introducing the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund

In November 2014, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, in partnership with The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, will launch the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund, which will accept monetary donations, allowing everyone who wants to support the cause to do so, leading to the creation of even more wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments. To make a donation, simply go to www.Pantene.com or the Pantene Beautiful Lengths page on The Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s website, www.gcfdn.org/pantene.

“Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a program I am especially proud of,” says Jodi Allen, Vice President of P&G Hair Care & Color for North America. “In our eight year history, we have seen huge growth with the cause due to the selfless donations from women, men and children across the country.” Allen continues, “We are so excited to introduce the new Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund, giving everyone an opportunity to support such an important cause.”

National Donate Your Hair Day

People nationwide are growing their hair long and strong in preparation for the third annual National Donate Your Hair Day (NDYHD) on November 22, 2014. This unifying day of giving encourages people nationwide to cut and donate their healthy hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Pantene has once again partnered with Seventeen and will be hosting donation events in Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami. If you do not live in these areas, go to your local salon to cut your hair and send in your donation.

Those who are donating on November 22 and everyday are encouraged to share their donation story by posting photos to social media, tagging @Pantene (Twitter) and @PanteneHair (Instagram) using #BeautifulLengths.

About Pantene Beautiful Lengths

Since its creation in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has collected more than 600,000 ponytails and provided the funds to create more than 34,000 free, real-hair wigs which are distributed through select American Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Many of the women we help say that putting on a wig makes them feel like themselves again and when people across the country donate their hair to the cause, they are helping make that happen.

Hair Donation Requirements

The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are:

  • Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long.
  • Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.
  • Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation.

Important steps to keep in mind when donating:

  • Clean, shampoo, and/or condition hair, without any styling, hairspray, or additional hair products, and create a ponytail with an elastic band.
  • Measure the length of the ponytail from the elastic band to the tips, making sure it’s at least 8 inches long.
  • Cut the hair just above the elastic band so that the elastic band remains on the ponytail after cutting and keeps cut hair together.
  • Place the ponytail, kept intact with the elastic band, in a zipper-lock bag and seal tightly.
  • Place the plastic bag with the ponytail in a padded or plastic envelope and send to:
    Pantene Beautiful Lengths
    Attn: 192-123
