With more than 30 years of legal experience, Sloan is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
The Litigation Counsel of America (LCA, www.litcounsel.org) is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellowship in the LCA is highly selective and by invitation only. Fellows are selected based upon excellence and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation. The LCA is aggressively diverse in its composition. Established as a trial and appellate lawyer honorary society reflecting the American bar in the twenty-first century, the LCA represents the best in law among its membership. The number of Fellowships has been kept at an exclusive limit by design, allowing qualifications, diversity and inclusion to align effectively, with recognition of excellence in litigation across all segments of the bar. Fellows are generally at the partner or shareholder level, or are independent practitioners with recognized experience and accomplishment. In addition, the LCA is dedicated to promoting superior advocacy, professionalism and ethical standards among its Fellows.
“I am honored to have been named as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America,” Sloan commented. “I am a staunch advocate for the rights of individuals. My firm and I are committed to working hard to represent our clients’ needs and interests in the best way possible. As a result, our clients have become our largest sources of referrals.”
Sloan was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May 1980. His trial experience began early in his career when he served as lead counsel in a murder trial that began two weeks after obtaining his bar results. In his first three years of practice, Sloan tried everything from criminal cases to boundary line disputes. At the age of 30, he started The Sloan Law Firm and began focusing his practice on personal injury.
Texas Monthly Magazine has recognized Sloan as a “Texas Super Lawyer” every year since 2003. Sloan has tried over 100 cases to a jury verdict and has a national trial practice, having successfully handled cases in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, and West Virginia.
In addition to being admitted to practice in the courts of Texas, Sloan is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Federal Claims, and the United States Supreme Court.
The Sloan Firm, one of east Texas’ largest, maintains strategic alliances nationally and throughout Texas. The firm opened a Houston office in 2010. Attorneys of The Sloan Firm have been recognized by numerous publications including Texas Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. All Sloan Firm attorneys are members of the State Bar of Texas. Some are also licensed to practice in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
