AOL Announces Open Auditions for America’s Next Great Sportscaster

#AOLSportsSearch seeks up-and-coming talent for new sports show

NEW YORK--()--AOL today announced an open audition to find the next great sportscaster to host its new sports show. This new sports venture will bring innovative programming to users in an engaging format as well as dynamically curated video from users across the country. The search for America’s greatest sports personality, #AOLSportsSearch, kicks off today.

Anyone with a passion for sports is encouraged to participate through one of many ways to audition. AOL is asking prospective hosts to submit auditions via social media channels Twitter, Instagram and Vine using hashtag #AOLSportsSearch. Hopefuls can also enter directly through the site AOL.com/SportSearch. In addition, on Monday, November 17th, AOL will host live auditions at the company’s New York City headquarters and its Los Angeles office. See full location and timing details below.

Prospective hosts should stand out from the pack and are encouraged to think outside the box – be knowledgeable and enthusiastic sports fans with experience and unique perspectives on current sporting events. Social media hopefuls should submit a 6-60 second video entry showcasing their talents in an entertaining way. For mobile upload submissions, a horizontal picture is preferred.

#AOLSportsSearch will accept submissions via social media through November 17th at 12pm EST. Following this audition period, the field of potential hosts will be narrowed down to 8 finalists. On Tuesday, November 18th, top contenders with winning social media submissions will join the live finalists for a series of sports challenges at the AOL New York City studios, ultimately narrowing down the candidate pool to 2, with the winner being crowned on Wednesday, November 19th.

All submissions will be evaluated by the AOL sports production team and AOL users. The auditions will be promoted on AOL.com, social media platforms and will stream live on the AOL Sports channel (aol.com/sports). Visit AOL.com/SportsSearch for the complete #AOLSportsSearch terms and conditions.

“Great content starts with great talent. We want to start by sourcing the best new creators from emerging platforms and partner with one of them to develop a new, differentiated sports show,” said Dermot McCormack, President of Video and AOL Studios. “The show marks an exciting new chapter in AOL’s evolution as a video and programming powerhouse."

This new sports venture illustrates AOL’s commitment to creating and delivering exceptional video content, extending across mobile and social platforms. The new show will join AOL’s current lineup of both live and pre-recorded original content, which includes the award-winning HuffPost Live to the Emmy-nominated AOL Originals series Park Bench with Steve Buscemi and The Future Starts Here with Tiffany Shlain.
