TORONTO--()--On November 22, 2014 Pantene will celebrate National Donate Your Hair Day – an annual day of giving, encouraging Canadians to cut and donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths to create real-hair wigs for women battling cancer. These real-hair wigs are available at no cost to women across the country who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, 2 out of 5 Canadians will develop a form of cancer in their lifetime, and it is estimated that there will be 93,600 new cases of cancer among Canadian women in 2014.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis can be devastating, and for those women whose cancer treatments lead to hair loss the journey can seem even more daunting,” says Marilyn Brown, National Campaign Director, Canadian Cancer Society. “The Pantene Beautiful Lengths program is instrumental in helping these women to feel strong, proud and gorgeous as they take on cancer.”

In 7 years, with the support of thousands of generous Canadians from coast-to-coast, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has donated over 70,000 ponytails to be made into wigs to help women living with cancer regain their confidence and sense of self.

“The Pantene Beautiful Lengths program is built upon one act of generosity,” says Esther Benzie, Director, Brand Operations, Procter & Gamble Inc. “It’s this simple, but incredibly significant act that makes it possible for Pantene to help women who are going through the toughest fight of their lives feel more like themselves when it matters most.”

Pantene encourages women across the country to get involved and make the cut by contacting their local salons to make an appointment and tell them more about Pantene Beautiful Lengths and National Donate Your Hair Day. Canadians can also get friends together for a hair-cutting party at home, or even organize a “cut day” in their school to support this worthy cause.

Hair Donation Requirements:

  • Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long
  • Hair cannot be bleached, permanently coloured or chemically treated (vegetable-based dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes are OK)
  • Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair should not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation

Those who cannot donate on November 22, are still encouraged to make the cut as Pantene Beautiful Lengths accepts donations year-round. See the attached PDF with details on how to make a cut and donate.

Get Involved and Share!
National Donate Your Hair Day participants can show off their new cuts by tweeting @Pantene and @cancersociety with the #BeautifulLengths hashtag and posting their photos on Pantene North America’s Facebook page. Those unable to donate can still be involved by pledging to participate next year on social media, or by planning a hair cutting and donation event for friends and family.
