The Sallie Mae Fund Donates $25,000 to Folds of Honor to Support Scholarship and Assistance for Veterans’ Families

NEWARK, Del.--()--To commemorate Veteran’s Day, Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning and paying for college company, and The Sallie Mae Fund—the charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae— today announced a partnership with Folds of Honor that will provide up to $50,000 in scholarships and assistance to dependents and spouses of military servicemen and women killed or disabled while serving our nation.

Throughout this week, Sallie Mae will donate $1 to Folds of Honor for every tweet using #SaluteOurVets, up to a total of $25,000. In addition, The Sallie Mae Fund will provide another $25,000 grant to Folds of Honor to support the non-profit’s scholarship program.

“It’s an honor to team with Sallie Mae this Veteran’s Day to raise funds for the families of our American heroes,” said Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor founder. “The Folds of Honor mission is to honor our nation’s service members by educating their legacy, and our partnership with Sallie Mae allows us to continue providing educational scholarships and assistance to those who most certainly deserve our support.”

“Veteran’s Day is an important reminder to reflect on and salute the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who selflessly serve and protect our country,” said Dan Kennedy, a former Army Officer and senior vice president at Sallie Mae. “It’s also a time to honor their families who make significant sacrifices, as well. Today, we honor those sacrifices by creating opportunities for veterans’ families. These scholarships will make college more accessible and affordable and help veterans’ families realize their education dreams.”

Established in 2007, Folds of Honor is an organization that seeks to provide educational scholarships and assistance to those families affected by deployments that have led to a service member’s death or disablement. The scholarships through Folds of Honor support tuition, tutoring and educational summer camps for children K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and children. The organization has awarded more than 7,500 scholarships since it was established seven years ago.
